Pre-MedPre-Med and Health Academy – K56L Screened Program
 
The Pre-Med Academy equips students with knowledge and competencies that allow them to excel in college pre-med and health professional programs. Students experience an immersive clinical internship, study anatomy, medical technology, medical ethics, and take AP and college-level courses. Students graduate with certifications in CPR, first aid, and others accredited by the American Red Cross. This program equips students with the knowledge, skills, and competencies for success in college pre-med programs. This 4-year math-science program culminates in internships at various medical facilities. Students graduate with CPR and at least two other certifications offered by the American Red Cross.
 
EMT COURSE DESCRIPTION
The JDHS EMT program is designed to provide students with the knowledge and skills necessary to assess and treat traumatic injuries and medical emergencies in the prehospital setting. Areas of study include an introduction to emergency medical services systems, roles and responsibilities of EMTs, basic cardiac life support, anatomy and physiology, medical emergencies, trauma care, special considerations for working in the prehospital setting and providing safe patient transportation. Special attention will be paid to stress management, self-care, and fostering humanity through public service.

ANATOMY & PHYSIOLOGY
Anatomy and Physiology is a challenging course that provides a general overview of and introduction to the human body. Students examine each of the eleven body systems in detail, investigating each system’s unique structural components and exploring how they function together to sustain life and maintain homeostasis. Viewed through the lens of real-world applications, A&P supplies our future healthcare providers with theoretical and practical knowledge about the dynamic machine that is the human body.

MEDICAL SCIENCE TECHNOLOGY
Medical science technology provides a general overview and introduction to the technologies used to maintain, heal, and improve the functioning of the human body. From medical communication and ethics to medical technology specific to each of the body systems, students are challenged to consider the many different perspectives required to bring any medical technology to fruition. As an added bonus, students also receive instruction in CPR, AED use, and first aid. 

HEALTH CAREERS EXPLORATION
This course is designed to give you an introduction to the variety of career choices available in healthcare today. We will look at healthcare from multiple perspectives and engage in class discussions on some of the most important issues of current times. Students will explore the history of medical technology, current uses, as well as look to the future of the field.
